I am considering changing jobs and applying for a position as an administrative assistant in a dentist office. Can anyone help me?

Well I can see from the answers that no one is an administrative assistant so they really don’t know what the job entails.
I am an administrative assistant for the local university. I am responsible for ensuring that all computer labs are up and running (software purchased for particular courses, classes assigned to correct computer labs); maintenance and inventory of 7 computer labs and 4 classrooms with over $350,000 worth of equipment. I also supervise and train employees, write a grant and ensure reports are submitted on a timely manner, balance 4 department budgets, I am in control of the department budgets and follow protocol when it comes to purchasing. I schedule board meetings and take minutes, schedule travel and process travel reimbursements, assist students, faculty and staff and community members with computer tutoring and troubleshooting software problems and or/printer problems, and much much more.
I enjoy my job and am the back bone of the department. I am given a lot of respect by my supervisor and those in higher positions at the campus for my knowledge, experience and general enthusiastic personality.
An administrative assistant is more than a secretary or gopher and each responsibility will be different depending on the organization. Today’s society no longer call them "Secretaries" because the duties go beyond answering the phone and filing papers. In the 20+ years I have been in administration, I have never had to fetch anyone’s coffee but I did offer if I was going to get a cup for myself.
My daughter has been office manager for a dental firm for many years and can tell you that you an administrative assistant in a dental firm will help answer phones, schedule patients, check patients out, submit insurance forms for processing and more.
Before you make a decision, find out exactly what the job duties are, you might find you do enjoy it.
assists administrators.
)
They do secretarial work. 2D
Admin assistant is the biatch of the office, and does all the ridiculous grunt work that the administrator doesn’t want to do.
That is a fancy title for a secretary.
In some instances, they are given less mundane tasks, but it’s generally creating documents, getting the boss coffee, etc.
In a dental office, you will likely have a lot of filing, etc. You may be in charge of the receptionists and responsible to keep the office running smoothly.
thats a fancy title for Secratry. Like Custodial engineer for Janitors.
well at schools they are learning to bve the big kahuna.. they learn from the expert and they soon get what they want. yeah thats amazing. an aa is kind of like the second head of something..
sorry to have to ask, but why would you apply for a position if you don’t know what it is, very gutsy
An administrative assistant does the paper work, files, answer’s telephones, sometimes does the payables & recieveables, might be involved with cash and doing cash deposits, but in a dental office i’d say 80% of your job would be filing all the files, and doing lots of paper work. Good luck if it’s still what you want
an administrative assistant is a bit like a secretary you answer phones, do filing, other paperwork and you might have to order supplies or deal with the patients
It is basically the modern-day title for secretary. Not to be confused with a receptionist, who mainly greets visitors and answers phones.
