What are the disadvantages of wearing upper dentures?
I would prefer implants but cannot afford them. I have heard nothing good about having to wear dentures. Can someone out there offer me some sound advice? Thanks.

I was in the same boat as you. I couldn’t afford them either. I have had my denture for 2 weeks now and I love it. I thought it was going to be awful, but it really isn’t. My teeth were awful before and I hated smiling, now I smile all the time. I don’t really even notice that I have a denture now. I still have my bottom teeth. As far as eating goes, it takes some time to get used to, but I don’t have too many problems now. I am still in a little bit of pain, but I am a wimp. As far as talking goes, I haven’t really had any problems talking except for when I wasn’t using some poly grip. They stay in place better now. Good luck.
Dentures are a big bulky piece of plastic. I call them sliding plastic gum covers. You will have to relearn to eat and talk. Eating will be a totally different experience for you from now on.
I tell my patients to remember that dentures are NOT a replacement for teeth. They are a replacement for NO teeth!
I never tell patients that dentures are a good experience, rather the most miserable experience of their life.
Not trying to be mean here, but realistic. You want the truth, this is it.
dentures are worn when there are no teeth in the arch.
they are artificial which are designed to help the individual in mastication and speech and IN NO WAY THEY ARE AS GOOD AS NATURAL DENTITION.
you have to learn to eat, speak with the new dentures for the first few days it will be difficult for you.
but you become well versed to use the denture, then it will become ok.
stability is the another problem which occurs when denture not properly fabricated.
since you told that you cant afford for implants,it is better to go for a complete denture.
hope you can manage within few days with it.
good luck
