Currently a junior in HS. I’m taking a 2 year dental assisting class there. After i graduate HS i will be able to work as a dental assistant in a dental office, but i wasn’t just going to stop there. I was going to go even further and become a hygienist.

The Navy sent me a piece of mail, and it got me interested, but I looked on a bunch branches, i guess that’s what they are, the air force, the navy and the army, and all that seems to show up is dentists (and the specialties) and assistants.

So how does it work? What should i do? Do i do into it as an assistant or what?
They pay for my tuition right?
I also hear they pay for just about everything else.
I’m interested.
Help me out.

One last question…i don’t actually want to fight, so there won’t be any chance of that, correct? Oh and do i have to go through the physical training everyone else does?

Vet clinic receptionist, do I qualify for the job?

I’m 20 years young and have 6 months experience as a receptionist, but in a dental office. Would it be possible to apply my skills at a veterinary clinic’s front desk? I’m a quick learner and can remember any new information easily. I’m famliar with Care Credit and dealing with insurance companies..

Full Mouth Xrays…does your dental office do these?

I’ve been a patient of my dental office for nearly 18 years, during the most part of which I’ve been quite pleased. However, they’ve recently started recommending periodic full mouth xrays (FMX) in addition to the annual xrays.

First, I am currently without dental insurance, so I lay out the money at the time of visit. FMX is rather costly. During the years when I did have insurance, FMX was never mentioned. Also, I’m not crazy about having so many xrays done at one sitting.

When would FMX be necessary?

FYI, I am fortunate to have nice chompers. Whether it be due to genetics, proper daily care, regular dental visits, or a combination of these, I do feel lucky. Aside from a few fillings and the removal of my wisdom teeth, I’ve had no other work. No root canals, no crowns or bridges, no cracked or chipped teeth…and no discomfort to lead me to believe I might have something to be concerned about. And I’m almost 40.

Thanks in advance for any input.
Oops…it appears I may have jumbled my wording. I have only had annual bitewings (4 or 6) in the past. The office has started recommending FMX as an occasional event (once every several years). Since I’d not heard of FMX before, despite having had regular cleanings and checkups all my life…I am inquiring about the importance of periodic FMX. Thanks.

Anyone a dental hygienist?

I’m about to start my senior year of high school and have been trying to really figure out my plans for after this year. I want to make decent money, but I don’t really want to be in school forever. I’ve researched highest paying jobs requiring only associates degrees, and I’m actually interested in one of them, dental hygienist. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me from first-hand experience how hard the classes are to get an associates in Dental Hygiene. Also, do you like your job as a hygienist? What are the best and worst things about it? Also, I’m currently in a COE (cooperative office education) program with my high school. I get to leave school early to go to work, but I’ve already had this job for a year, and it would be hard to change now with the school requirements and all, so I can’t really go work in a dental office yet to see if I think I’ll like it. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

ok, so I live in the great state of California (sarcastically speaking lol) and there is Medi-cal issued to those with low income. I need some dental work done and am financially strapped and cant afford it. The dental office checks credit to issue a payment plan. No credit/bad credit= no payment plan and must be paid in full. Is there any type of government Dental plan available to those of low income (in my case, I am a student and I waitress part time)

My husband got me Zoom teeth whitening for Valentines Day. He had his done Wednesday and his teeth were so sore and painful and the inside of his lips were burned. Does this usually happen. Is this bad for your teeth. My teeth are pretty white anyway and I’m thinking about backing out. I guess I’m panicking a little. I don’t want to do anything that weakens or hurts my teeth!
It was done in a dental office.
